Delete your account
You can delete your Starterwise account and your data whenever you like. This page explains how and what happens.
Before you start
- Export what you want to keep. In the app, open Settings, then Your data, and choose Export my data. You get a file with everything in your account. Once an account is deleted, we cannot get it back.
- Cancel Premium first. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it with Apple: on your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Think about your household. Deleting your account is separate from deleting a household. If you are not the owner, you leave the household and its shared records stay with the other members. If you own a household that other people are in, the app asks you first to make one of them the owner (Make owner) or to delete the household (Delete household). If you are the only member, delete the household first.
Delete your account in the app
- Open Starterwise and sign in.
- Open Settings, then Your data, and choose Delete my account.
- Read what will be removed, type DELETE and confirm.
- The app shows how far the deletion has got, and signs you out when it is finished.
Cannot use the app?
Email support@starterwise.com from the address you sign in with and ask us to delete your account. We may reply to check that it is you.
What is removed
- your sign-in and account details
- your public recipe links, which stop working, along with the photos and cards that belong to them
- your Bake Circle posts, comments and reactions, and any second-look requests about them
- the photos you uploaded
- your referral records
- the AI requests and results we keep (any copy held by our AI provider follows that provider's retention terms, described in our privacy policy)
- your device and notification registrations
Deletion runs as background jobs that are retried until they finish, so some items can take a little while to disappear.
What can stay
- Shared household records that other members still use, such as starters, bakes, pantry and shopping lists. To delete a household you own, with everything in it, use Delete household in the app: its records, photos and public links are removed for everyone, and the other members keep their own accounts.
- Recipes and photos that others already received, for example a recipe a friend imported. They have their own copy.
- Words from a blocked post that a person later published, kept without your name or account to improve the automatic check. Any pointer to a photo ends when the original is deleted.
- Records we must keep by law, such as accounting records of purchases.
- Backups, until they expire, and then they are erased.
- Data held by Apple, such as your purchase history and Sign in with Apple. Those are covered by Apple's own policies.
